OUR MISSION
"As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another”
Proverbs 27:17
To reach and win people for Christ; to encourage and train them for involvement in various Christian adventures; to develop and sustain close relationships with them; to glorify God together as we wait for Christ’s return.
In developing our mission, we were inclined to ask and seek the answer to two basic questions: what is the church supposed to be about? And, in light of the church purposes, what specific objectives would Christ want this ministry to pursue?
The answer to the first question comes from a thoughtful examination of the New Testament. The early church was involved in five basic pursuits: they were winning people for Christ, developing strong relationships with those they won, teaching and training the church members, expressing their adoration and appreciation to God, and serving and or helping those in need.
The answer to the second question came as a result of observation and revelation. We noticed that a particular group (Black males) within our community was largely missing from the typical church. Then we felt God’s Spirit urging that we should be the ones to do something about this imbalance. Our Mission therefore became one with a broad purpose (all kinds of people) and a primary target (Black males).
Our strategy is to enlist a diverse group of members/friends/missionaries to, (1) explore and discover the forces that are shaping our target group into what they are and, (2) develop plans and programs to help them overcome these forces. |
